Care Instructions

Metal Furniture

Our metal furniture is hand fabricated from new steel. It is then treated with a water based substance that darkens the surface. This substance causes a natural oxidation that turns the steel to colors in a range from black to blue to rust red.  After the steel is treated with the oxidation agent a clear furniture grade paste wax is applied to seal it and protect it from scratches.  (Briwax Clear Paste Wax)

General Metal Care

This furniture should be cleaned with a damp cloth to remove any dirt. Do not use chemical cleaners or abrasive pads. It is recommended that the wax finish be reapplied periodically for maximum protection.

Metal Cutlery

After use, wash each piece as soon as possible, in order to avoid long contact with food; use hot water, a neutral soft detergent and a smooth sponge. After washing, rinse immediately and dry with a soft cloth. For detailed cutlery care instructions, see below .

General Fabric Upholstery Care

Vacuum or brush with non-metallic stiff bristle brush regularly (at least once a month) to remove dust and grime.  Protect from direct sunlight to prevent fading.

Upholstery Spot Clean

All of canvas fabric offerings are “Code S”  fabrics. This includes organic fibers such as cotton, rayon, linen, wool, silk, etc. Use only a water-free, dry cleaning solvent.Have a name brand cleaner on hand so that you can act fast if a spill occurs. If a Spill Occurs: Dab spills immediately with a clean, dry, white cloth. Then, if needed, use an appropriate spot cleaner. Pretest any cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area before proceeding. Do not saturate fabric with cleaner. Pat instead of rubbing to avoid damaging the fabric. Clean spots or stains from the outside to the middle of affected are to prevent circling. Pile fabrics may require brushing with a non-metallic stiff bristle brush to restore appearance.

Upholstery Overall Cleaning

For thorough cleaning, we recommend a professional in-home upholstery cleaning service. Once you contact a professional cleaner, be prepared to give them your fabrics content information as well as the Spot cleaning code.  Overall cleaning is recommended every 12 to 24 months or when an overall soiled condition has been reached. Don’t wait for severe soiling. The more soiling, the less likelihood of restoring fabric.  Do not remove cushion or pillow casings for separate cleaning as this may cause a slight color change in the fabric.

Wood Care Cleaning

All of canvas’ wood furniture products are finished with a pigmented lacquer to color and protect the wood.  To clean these surfaces use a damp cloth or a name brand cleaner for lacquered products. Do not use a chemical cleaner or abrasive pads.
